OUR PROGRAMS

 

  • Parent Assistance - A Parent Information Specialist provides one-on-one assistance via phone/in person. Parents gain support/information regarding school concerns, enabling the parents to be effective members of their child's Individualized Education Program team. Our goal is to ensure parents work effectively as part of their child's IEP team enabling the student to become a contributing member of their school/community. Information provided regarding special education and disabilities.
  • Parent to Parent - Parents are matched with volunteer supporting parents whose children have similar disabilities. Parents are able to share their child's struggles and victories with another parent who walks in ?similar shoes?. Whether it's learning about a new diagnosis from a parent perspective, sharing resources/strategies, or providing moral support parents discover they are not "alone". Finding someone who shares and celebrates a child's "small victories" can make navigating the disability maze brighter!

  • Early Intervention Parent Assistance - A Parent Information Specialist provides one-on-one assistance via phone/in person to parents with children birth to 5 year. Parents gain support/information regarding disabilities, education and community services. Our goal is help parents become effective members of their child's Individualized Family Service Plan team.

  • Education Advocate Training to Represent Students in "Need" - Provide training for volunteer education advocates concerning special education and community services. Coordinator works closely with Kansas State Department of Education, SRS and other agencies to ensure that students are located and assigned trained advocates. Coordinator assigns education advocates to students with disabilities whose parents rights are severed or unavailable". More than 900 students in Kansas currently are in need of volunteer Educational Advocates to represent them in educational matters.

  • Child Advocate Training  - Train volunteer child advocates who represent infants/toddlers whose parental rights are severed or whereabouts are unknown to represent the child in educational matters.

  • Parent Training - Provide training for parents of children/youth birth-22 and volunteer education advocates concerning special education and community services.  Special Request Workshops

  • Family Events - During our special family events.  Parents have an opportunity to network with others whose children have similar needs. Family Enrichment Weekend-free overnight event: parents network, gain information and resources: children and volunteers have fun. Parent Networking Conference-free overnight event for parents only.

  • Statewide Conference - Kansas City's Together We Can Learn Conference and Wichita's Inclusion Conference focus-successful Kansas inclusive strategies.  Kansas City's conference is every February and Wichita's Conference is held every December.

  • Transition to Adulthood Parent Assistance - A Parent Information Specialist provides one-on-one assistance via phone/in person to parents with children 14 to 22 years old. Parents gain support/information regarding disabilities, education and community services. Our goal is help parents become effective members of their child's Transition Individualized Education Plan team. Transition to Adulthood information for youth.

  • iGrad - The goal is to inform and educate youth, advisors, and service providers from child welfare and the public education systems to work together to support the youth in Kansas. Keys for Networking and Families Together provide educational liaisons to assist youth by tracking credit histories, capturing missing transcript data, and training the youth to advocate for themselves.  Staff examine the array of federal and state supports and programs available in the area in which the student resides. Education liaisons work with planning teams for each youth to review the educational records. Keys for Networking and Families Together, Inc. are available to assist all parties involved in the youth's education.
