There are more than 800 children with disabilities in Kansas whose parents are unknown, unavailable or whose parental rights have been terminated.

These children need someone to represent them in special education matters.

Families Together's Topeka Center staff works closely with the Kansas State Department of Education and Kansas Department of Health and Environment to ensure volunteer advocates are trained and assigned.

The Appointment of

Qualified Advocates

is Vital in Providing

Quality Education Plan!

Training is mandatory for an individual to serve as an appointed Education or Child Advocate in Kansas .  The five hour course includes the special education law, discipline and education advocate training.

  • Education Advocates represent children ages 3 to 18 years.

  • Child Advocates represent children birth to 3 years.
